Day 02 Kunming to Lhasa
Breakfast at hotel. Transfer to airport, for your flight to Lhasa.
Arrive in Lhasa, meet/assist at the airport and transfer to hotel.
On the way from Gongar Airport to downtown Lhasa, you have the
chance to enjoy the unique plateau scenery. Day free for your own
activities. Dinner and overnight at hotel.
Day 03 Lhasa
After breakfast at hotel, visit the Potala Palace, Lhasa's cardinal
landmark combining originality with harmony. After lunch, explore
Jokhang Temple built in the 7th century by Songtsan Gambo, the Tang
Princess Wen Cheng and Nepalese Princess Bhrikuti. It is the
spiritual center of Tibet, the Holy of Holies and the destination of
millions of Tibetan pilgrims. Then take a stroll on Barkhor Street.
It is a quadrangle street surrounding the Jokhang and a place where
Tibetan culture, commerce, religion and arts assemble. Return to
hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Potala Palace
Originally built by King Songtsen Gampo in the seventh century,
Potala Palace is located on the Red Hill of Lhasa, Tibet. Destroyed
by lightning and war, Potala Palace had been rebuilt by the Fifth
Dalai Lama in 1645. Since then, Potala Palace has become the seat of
Dalai Lamas and also the political center of Tibet. The thirteenth
Dalai Lama extended it to the present size, 117 meters (384 ft) in
height and 360 meters (1,180 ft) in width, covering an area of more
than 130, 000 sq meters (about 32 acres). Mainly comprising of the
White Palace (administerial building) and the Red Palace (religious
building), Potala Palace is famous for its grand buildings,
complicated constructions, devotional atmosphere and splendid
artworks
Jokhang Temple
The Tang Dynasty (618 - 907), was characterized by economic
prosperity and great progress in politics. During this time, China
was considered the cultural and political center of the world. King
Songtsem Gampo (617 – 650, the 33rd king of Tibet) was the leader of
the Tubo (or Tibetan) Kingdom. He actively promoted Buddhism in
Tibet and under his reign, Tibet achieved great progress in social
innovation and realized the integration of Tibet for the first time.
In order to promote friendly relationships with the neighboring
countries, he successively married Princess Bhrikuti of Nepal and
Princess Wen Cheng of the Tang Dynasty. When the two wives arrived
in Tibet, each brought a statue of Jowo Sakyamuni. During this time,
most people lived in tents and there were few palaces. To house the
Buddha brought by Princess Wen Cheng, King Songtsem Gampo
constructed the Little Jokhang. Jealous of her, Princess Burikuti
asked Gampo to build a Jokhang for her as well. Therefore, in 647
the giant complex was built.
Day 04 Lhasa
Breakfast at hotel. Take a morning tour to Drepung Monastery, 5 km
from downtown Lhasa, the biggest Buddhism temple in the world. After
lunch, visit Tibet Museum to explore the rich collection of Tibet
cultural relics, then the Norbulingka which means Jewel Park, was
Dalai Lama's summer palace since 7th century. Return to hotel for
dinner and overnight stay.
Tibet Museum
The Tibet Museum is located in the southeast corner of Norbu Lingka,
Lhasa city. It covers an area of 23,508 square meters (5.8 acres)
including the exhibition area of 10,451 square meters (2.6 acres).
The museum is equipped with modern facilities to ensure quality
service for visitors and safety and efficient administration of the
museum itself. Here exhibits are introduced in Japanese, English,
Tibetan, and Chinese, in order to accommodate visitors from all over
the world. The complex is a wonderful combination of Chinese and
Tibetan architectural styles. Upon entering the Prelude Hall,
visitors' attention will immediately be caught by the colourfully
ornamented beams, pillars, lintels, banners and wall hangings. The
Tibet Museum houses a rich collection of prehistoric cultural relics
including Buddha statues in different postures, imperial jade seals,
gold albums, gifts granted by emperors, colourful tangkas, and
various printed Sanskrit and Tibetan scriptures. Visitors can also
see a variety of folk art such as unique Tibetan handicrafts,
costumes, jewellery, and adornments made of gold, silver, and jade,
as well as fine Chinese pottery.
Day 05 Lhasa – Gyangtse –
Lhasa
After breakfast, embark on a 2 hour drive to Gyangtse Yamdrok Lake
with a round trip of 280 km. Being one of the three holy lakes in
Tibet, Yamdrok Lake also with a generating station which is the
highest-situated one above the sea-level. Lunch en-route. Return to
hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 06 Lhasa to Kunming
Breakfast at hotel. Transferred to airport for flight to Kunming,
Arrive in Kunming. After lunch, sightseeing in Kunming at Western
Hills…. Where you will have a bird’s eye view of the province’s
biggest Lake Diachi, and finally set your feet on the Dragon Gate,
which was carved out of rock visit the Western Dragon Gate. Transfer
to hotel for dinner and over night stay.
Day 07 Depart Kunming
Breakfast at hotel. Morning free for your own activities. (No Lunch
on this day) Transfer to the airport for your flight home.
Day 08 Arrive in Colombo
